Cell and Tissue Preparation Services for Research

Research-Ready Preparations for Downstream Analysis

ABS Bio provides cell and tissue preparation services designed to support molecular, cellular, and biochemical research workflows. Using customer-provided materials or samples sourced through ABS Bio, our team prepares research-ready materials that help support downstream analysis, biomarker studies, drug discovery programs, and translational research applications.

From membrane preparations and subcellular fractionation to cryopulverization and nucleic acid extraction, ABS Bio offers specialized preparation services that help maximize sample quality, preserve biomolecule integrity, and improve analytical performance.

Membrane Preparations

ABS Bio prepares cell membranes for studies involving receptors, ion channels, and other drug targets. Our team routinely prepares membranes from transfected cells, primary cells, and tissues including cerebral cortex, striatum, heart muscle, and liver. Our services include:

  • Continuous and discontinuous gradients using sucrose, Ficoll, or Percoll
  • Large-scale preparations for receptor binding and ion channel work
  • High-throughput screens using large ultra- and high-speed centrifuges

Subcellular Fractions

ABS Bio has extensive experience isolating and purifying cellular organelles from both cells and tissues. Available fractions include microsomes, mitochondria, synaptosomes, and P1 and P2 fractions. Our purification services include:

  • Differential centrifugation
  • Discontinuous sucrose gradients

Cell Treatments and Cell Preparations

Our team can culture cells, administer compounds of interest, and prepare samples for downstream evaluation.

Our services include:

  • Treating cells with signaling molecules, drugs, or other proteins of interest alongside controls
  • Preparing cells for RNA, DNA, or other downstream applications
  • Harvesting pellets and generating lysate preps for protein assessment

Cryopulverization

Frozen tissues can be challenging to process and may be susceptible to degradation of valuable biomarkers during handling. ABS Bio offers cryopulverization services designed to improve extraction efficiency while helping preserve biomolecule integrity.

Using approaches including freezer milling and Covaris CryoPrep, frozen tissue specimens are cryopulverized, weighed while frozen, and prepared as aliquots suitable for downstream applications.

Benefits of Cryopulverization

Preparing frozen tissue powder aliquots can:

  • Retain biomolecule integrity found in the original tissue sample
  • Improve tissue solubility in lysis buffers
  • Increase the yield and integrity of nucleic acids and proteins
  • Enhance biomarker extraction efficiency for downstream analyses
  • Support multiple analytical applications using individual aliquots

ABS Bio can process either customer-provided or in-house tissue specimens. Aliquots are shipped on dry ice and are ready for DNA, RNA, and protein extraction using standard protocols and commercially available kits.

RNA and DNA Preps

ABS Bio provides RNA and DNA isolation and purification services for a wide range of sample types, including cell lines, primary cells, human tissues, animal tissues, and blood products.

Our team also works with disease samples, including Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, COPD, and other indications.

Services include nucleic acid purification using solvent- and column-based methods, quality assessment through RIN analysis and spectrophotometry, and DV200 analysis.

ABS Bio guarantees a minimum RNA Integrity Number (RIN) greater than 6.0 from postmortem tissues and greater than 7.0 from surgical samples.

RNA Extraction from Fresh-Frozen Tissues

RNA degradation during extraction from frozen tissue samples is a significant challenge due to the presence of ubiquitous RNases and the delicate nature of RNA.

When tissues are frozen and subsequently thawed, the cellular mechanisms that protect RNA from RNase degradation are compromised, leading to rapid breakdown. To address this, we developed a custom protocol for RNA isolation from fresh-frozen tissues that preserves RNA integrity.

Our unique RNA isolation protocol features:

  • Preserved Integrity: Retains the RNA Integrity Number (RIN) found in the original tissue samples.
  • High Efficiency: Improves extraction yield across various tissue types, including difficult-to-isolate tissues.
  • Low Input: Requires less starting tissue weight to yield sufficient RNA for downstream applications.
  • High Compatibility: Offers full suitability for sensitive downstream applications like RNA-Seq.
